first DUBSTEP night in BRISTOL?
SUBLOADEDが6周年を迎え（レポートはコチラ）、シーンの5年間に遺されたクラシックを収録したコンピ『WORTH THE WEIGHT』がリリース（近日入荷します）されるという状況のなか、「さて、ブリストルでダブステップに最初に焦点を当てたイベントは？／どんな風に伝わってきたの？」という疑問が沸いてきたので調べてみました。
これは、ブリストルの音楽文化にまつわるフォーラムHIJACKの、2007年5月のスレッド“first dubstep night in bristol?”から、DUB BOYによる発言。これを元に、当時のラインナップを書き出しておきます。どんなサウンドがどの時間帯にどれだけの比重でプレイされていたかも分かる感じになっています。Dub boy: First dubstep nights were Context at Timbuk2 (it was the 1st Subloaded @ Thekla) and Pinch playing dubstep early in the evening at Vertical Sound nights at the Arc bar. Im fairly sure this is correct, Diccon might correct me tho.
The first actual dedicated dubstep night was subloaded in sep 04. Context used to play electronica, jungle, techno etc as well.
I know cos i was there at all of them pretty much with about another 5 people who were feeling it.
Preceeding that were odd garage nights here & there occasionally playing darker stuff ie Hotflush Andy mentioned.
